Rethinking Schools - An international education publisher committed to equity and social justice in education. Their most recent book, Rethinking Globalization, is designed for 4-12th grade teachers who want to discuss critical issues surrounding the world’s economies and infrastructures with students.

 

New College of California - Education for Social Change - New College of California is an accredited institution of higher learning whose mission is to integrate education with creation of a just, sacred and sustainable world.

 

Highlander Research and Education Center - Highlander has a long and proud history of work with unions during the Great Depression, with Southerners of African descent during the civil rights movement, and with activists in Appalachia building community organizations during the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.  Its most recent work has emphasized youth organizing and working with grassroots immigrant rights groups throughout the South. Throughout its history, Highlander has worked to support people struggling against oppression to take collective action to shape their own destiny.

 

Peace and Justice Studies Association - PJSA is dedicated to bringing together academics, K-12 teachers and grassroots activists to explore alternatives to violence and share visions and strategies for social justice and social change. PJSA also serves as a professional association for scholars in the field of peace and conflict resolution studies.

 

Center for Community Change - provides backup support and resources to help low income people, especially people of color, build powerful, effective organizations through which they can change their communities and public policies for the better.

 

Center for Democratic Renewal (CDR) - a multi-racial organization advancing a vision of a democratic, diverse and just society free of racism and bigotry through helping communities combat groups, movements and government practices that promote hatred and bigotry.

 

Institute for Community Leadership - This innovative organization engages young people as activist/learners throughout the United States in their powerful Nonviolence Leadership Workshops.  They also engage youth as leaders in the renown National Nonviolence Leadership Corps.

 

Homies Unidos - A California-based non-profit dedicated to positive organizing among Latino youth gangs. Activist/learners explore the arts, health, education, and the law through empowering social change work.

 

Revitalizing Education and Learning (REAL) - Trains teachers and students to utilize leaning processes that help youth develop a greater sense of responsibility and ownership of their education. In REAL classes at Francisco Middle School, students improve their writing skills, organize community service projects, and support each other to achieve a common goal: success. The REAL leaders are a diverse group of 10 youth adults who work in classrooms with teachers in order to get a jumpstart on becoming teachers themselves.

 

Highlander Center - The Young and Restless Program - Through extensive outreach, fieldtrips, and a comprehensive summer program the Young and Restless Program offers an opportunity for activist/learners to strengthen the broader social and economic justice movement.

 

Institute for People's Education and Action (IPEA) - a grass-roots association of North American folk schools, popular education centers, community and academic institutions, resource organizations, and individuals.

 

Midwest Academy - The Midwest Academy offers on site training and consulting as well as five day training sessions for leaders and staff of citizen and community groups. The Academy is one of the nation's oldest and best known schools for community organizations, citizen organizations and individuals committed to progressive social change.

 

Henry Giroux - Scholar and advocate Giroux offers a wide collection of his work online, detailing his long career as an author and educator.

 

Peter McLaren - The acclaimed author’s collection of resources on critical pedagogy, media literacy, and social awareness.
