INTRODUCTION: According to the federal census taken in 2000, more than 25% of Washington State's residents are under 18 years old. How are young people included in decision-making across Washington's communities? In our work across the state, The Freechild Project has found young people and adults working statewide to make youth voice heard, respected, and acted on. Included here are many of the programs we've found that specifically promote youth voice.

RESOURCES: The Freechild Project has collected dozens of examples of nonprofit community organizations that support youth voice, as well as community-based and government programs that engage youth voice. There are also several "homegrown" youth voice publications from organizations in Washington that may assist you.

Freechild Project Resources

We have worked with dozens of organizations and agencies throughout the state to promote youth voice in service learning, school improvement, community government, and nonprofit decision-making. The Freechild Project offers hands-on training to young people and adults that focuses on successful youth involvement in decision-making. We also present engaging workshops at conferences and provide keynote addresses to young people and adults focused on youth involvement. Learn more by contacting our office.
